Mohammadi, an activist and author of White Torture, has been prosecuted relentlessly by authorities for her human rights advocacy in and outside of jail. She was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison and 80 lashes in May 2021, and in January 2022 was given an additional 8 years in jail and a 1-year sentence. In October 2023, she won the Nobel Peace Prize. She was sentenced to 15 months in January 2024, 1 year in June, and 6 months in October. Following a serious surgery, she was temporarily released on medical grounds in December 2024.
