Alfaya, a women’s rights activist, has faced harassment, including multiple arbitrary short detentions and an unofficial travel ban. In February 2020, she was classified as a high-interest person required to report monthly to police. Authorities also ignored IACHR precautionary measures protecting her rights and threatened her over activism, particularly around International Women’s Day events. In January 2021, she left Cuba in exile.
