Munawar Faruqui

Faruqui was arrested on January 2, 2021 on allegations that he had made indecent remarks about Hindu deities in a comedy routine he never performed—police officials later admitted the charge was baseless. Though he was set to serve 11 days in jail, Faruqui’s bail was twice denied, and he was not released until February 5, 2021, once the Supreme Court of India granted him interim bail. Following his release, many of Faruqui’s shows were cancelled, and on February 22, 2025, a Supreme Court lawyer filed a new complaint accusing him of obscenity via his show.
