In August 2022, Bidoon activist Mohammad al-Bargash was sentenced to a year in prison and 200 dinars for participating in sit-in protests in Taima, al-Jahra province. Half a month later, his sentence was suspended. But, on September 3, 2023, he was re-arrested when another indictment was filed against him for four tweets he wrote. Despite his acquittal in October 2023, Al-Bargash was convicted by Kuwait’s Appeals Court on January 31, 2024, and sentenced to three years in prison on disinformation charges. Al-Bargash went into hiding, but was found on February 21, 2024 and taken to prison.
