Mohamed Tadjadit, or the “poet of the Hirak,” was arrested in August 2020 for his involvement in a peaceful protest. He was released in January 2021. On April 4, he was re-arrested and detained for over a year, until he was released in mid-2022. After multiple short detentions in 2022 and 2023, he was taken into custody in January 2024 on charges related to his activism, and sentenced to 6 months in prison while awaiting trial on other cases. On November 1, 2024, he was released by presidential pardon. On January 16, 2025, Tadjadit was rearrested and sentenced to 5 years in prison four days later.
