Mikhail Zyghar is a Russian journalist, filmmaker, and author who fled Russia for Germany in 2022 after being officially designated a “foreign agent” by the Russian authorities. On July 23, 2024, while reportedly in New York, Zyghar was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for “disseminating false news” about the Russian army. The charges are specifically related to 2022 Instagram posts he published about the Bucha massacre. His Telegram channel was banned for “information against the special military operation” on March 6, 2025.
