Marwa Arafa

Marwa Arafa is an Egyptian translator, activist, and online commentator who has been in prolonged pretrial detention since her arrest in April 2020. She was forcibly taken by security forces from her home in Nasr City and initially held incommunicado before later being brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on charges including spreading false news and alleged involvement with a banned group. Since 2021, her detention has been repeatedly renewed by court orders, and she has remained in custody at Qanater Women’s Prison. As of early 2026 updates, she continues to be held in pretrial detention with no final verdict.
