Malleshappa Madivalappa Kalburgi

In August 2015, M. M. Kalburgi, an epigraphist and academic, was shot at close range on his doorstep and died shortly after. His work challenging the sanctity of religious idols reportedly upset Lingayat and Hindutva groups. While three individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder, it remains unclear if full justice has been served, as the case is still unresolved with no convictions to date.
