Maidul Islam

Maidul Islam was arrested on September 28, 2018 for online comments he made against Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina. He was detained for 40 days and suspended from his university position. Islam’s wife, Rozyna Begum, also reported various instances of harassment following Islam’s arrest. On August 23, 2023, following weeks of enduring an online smear campaign as well as a request by the Chittagong University Teachers’ Association that the Vice Chancellor take legal action against Islam, he received a court order threatening legal action for critical Facebook posts of Awami League.
