In July 2018, authorities arrested blogger Le Anh Hung and charged him with “abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon state interests.” In October, he went on hunger strike and was involuntarily transferred to a psychiatric institution. While institutionalized, he reported being forcibly injected and restrained. In May 2022, in a secret trial, he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. He was released on July 5, 2023 after serving 5 years in prison.
