Jorge Fernandez Era

In an April 18, 2024 Facebook post, Jorge Fernández Era reported that several officers had been stationed outside his residence for over a month. On May 19, while attempting to take out the trash, officers demanded his ID and tried to detain him without any judicial order. On August 18, Era was detained for several hours after announcing his intention to hold a peaceful protest in Havana’s Central Park. Shortly after resigning from the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in solidarity with the expulsion of an academic, Era was summoned for interrogation by State Security on September 18.
