Mora is a contemporary poet and founding member of Archipiélago, a civic group calling for democracy and civil rights in Cuba. He was arrested on the morning of July 16, 2021 following a social media post in which he decried the treatment of protesters during the 11J demonstrations. Though released from detention, he remains under surveillance and has been unable to leave his home since November 2021.
