Islom Kholboev is an Uzbek journalist who moved to Türkiye in 2014 with his family, where they continue to live in exile. He took an active part in the formation of the Birlik people’s movement and the Erk party in the late 1980s and has faced continued harassment, including an extradition request and a 2017 arrest along with journalist Bobomurad Abdullayev. Most recently, on August 18, 2021, Kholboev’s son, Jamol, was arrested after returning to Uzbekistan to renew his passport. No reason was given for the arrest, and no one has seen him since.
