Ihar Melnikov is a historian who was detained in January 2024 for an interview he had given to Euroradio, a dissident media outlet banned in the country, two years prior His trial began in September. He was convicted and sentenced to 4 years in prison for “collaborating with an extremist organization.” Several of his books were designated as extremist by the government. He was officially labeled an extremist by authorities in November 2024 and remains imprisoned in a penal colony.
