Huang Xiaomin is a freelance Chinese writer and member of the Independent Chinese Pen Center who primarily writes on WeChat about topics like human rights and democracy. He has been repeatedly imprisoned for his expression. Most recently, authorities detained him in May 2021 for his online comments on the charges of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” Sentenced to four years in prison in 2022, he was released in May 2025.
