Kyab, a poet, teacher, and essayist, has written extensively on the 2008 Tibetan unrest. He was jailed from 2012 to 2016 for his writings. On March 23, 2021, he was arrested in Kardze’s Sertha county under undisclosed charges. In October 2022, it was revealed that he had been sentenced to 14 years in prison in September 2022 on national security charges, widely considered spurious. His current whereabouts are unknown due to strict information controls.
