Philosopher and sociologist Freddy Quezada was fired from his university position as a professor at UNAN-Managua in 2018 for speaking out against Ortega’s regime. He was arrested in November 2023, hours after publishing a social media post critical of the government. He was transferred to Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System in December, and was charged with “incitement to hatred.” In September 2024, was released from prison into exile.
