A prominent young human rights defender, Al-Manasef was arrested in October 2011 and in 2014 was sentenced to 15 years in prison on various trumped-up charges, including organizing protests and posting articles online. He was fined 100,000 Riyals and banned from traveling for 15 years after his release. The sentence and travel ban were both reduced by one year. He has reportedly been tortured in prison.
