Comedian Emre Günsal was arrested in Istanbul in April 2020 for content in his stand-up show that allegedly insulted Türkiye’s first president, Kemal Atatürk, and notable figures from Konya. After being investigated, he was released after 11 days in detention. On January 28, 2021, he was sentenced to three years and five months in prison, but the sentence was suspended. Günsal is continuing his stand-up comedy shows in Türkiye.
