Hajjaj, a Jordanian-Palestinian cartoonist, was arrested by Jordanian authorities over a cartoon mocking the Israel–United Arab Emirates deal on August 26, 2020. On August 30, he was released on bail but was awaiting the verdict from the Supreme Court, and was facing up to two years in prison. on January 4, 2021, the Magistrate’s Court of Amman decided to drop the charges and cease the prosecution of Hajjaj.
