On two separate occasions in May and June 2022, exiled writer Dmitry Glukhovsky was arrested in absentia for “discrediting the army” in anti-war social media posts he made. After being placed on the foreign agent list in October 2022, Glukhovsky was arrested in absentia for “spreading false information about the Russian army.” He was fined 40,000 rubles for the lack of “foreign agent” markings on his publications. In August 2023, Glukhovsky was charged in absentia again for spreading “fake news” about the military, but this time sentenced to eight years in prison.
