In January 2019, Dang Thi Hue was kidnapped by the Thai Binh authorities and forced to sign a commitment regarding the BOT-related content she had posted on Facebook. Previously on May 8, 2020, she was sentenced to a total of 42 months in prison. After her release in early 2023, authorities escalated their harassment, detaining her multiple times, coercing her into signing confessions, placing her under a travel ban, and subjecting her friends and family to intimidation. In May 2024, Hue was abducted on the street by six individuals, including one in police uniform and detained for 25 hours.
