Bidoon activist Anwar Hayati was fired from his job as a doctor at Mubarak al-Kabeer Hospital on October 11, 2020, for publicly criticizing the government health sector. After being reinstated in September 2021, Hayati was fined 500 dinars in August 2022 for speeches he gave at Bidoon protests. Hayati then fled to Europe in September 2024, after being summoned by the Office of Public Prosecution. On January 25, 2024, he was sentenced, in absentia, to four years in prison and fined 10,000 dinars for seven tweets criticizing the royal family.
