Poczobut, a Belarusian-Polish political writer and minority rights activist, is known for his critical commentary on Belarusian politics, which he publishes in his blog, Polish newspapers, and a book discussing Lukashenka's impact. On March 25, 2021, he was detained for “incitement to racial, national, or religious hatred or discord.” In February 2023, Poczobut was sentenced to eight years in prison for promoting “hatred” and “calling for sanctions” against the regime. He was awarded the Sakharov Prize in October 2025. He was released in April 2026 in a prisoner swap and transferred to Poland.
