Ali Jahanian

Ali Jahanian is an activist and poet. He and his wife, Fereshteh Soori, were arrested in September 2024 for “propaganda” charges. Jahanian was released on bail in November. In March 2025, Jahanian was sentenced to a year in prison for “propaganda” along with his wife. Both Soori and Jahanian were acquitted of national security charges. In July 2025, while already serving their previous sentences, Soori and Jahanian were each sentenced to an additional 3 years in prison for new charges of “spreading lies” and “propaganda.” Jahanian was permitted to take a 5-day leave from prison in December 2025.
