Alexander Skobov is a renowned historian, columnist, and Soviet dissident who faced institutionalization in the 1970s and 80s for his anti-communist views. In April 2024, Skobov was detained in St. Petersburg for 2023 Telegram posts he published about the Crimean bridge explosion. He was tried for “calling for terrorism” and “participation in a terrorist community.” Hearings examined his written work in detail. In March 2025, Skobov was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
