Jazeem was arrested on May 16, 2020 under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in relation to his book of poetry Navarasam, in which authorities claimed without basis that he demonstrated extremism. His trial was scheduled for December 8, 2020 but was postponed due to concerns related to COVID-19. On December 16, 2021, Jazeem was conditionally released after 19 months detained without charge. He was included on a list of designated terrorists in August 2022. However, on December 12, 2023, Jazeem was officially acquitted by the Puttalam High Court due to the lack of evidence against him.
