Ahmed Douma, an Egyptian activist, blogger, and poet, has faced repeated arrest, prosecution, and abuse since 2013 linked to his political expression and role in protests. Initially sentenced to life in 2015, his term was later reduced to 15 years. He reported torture in detention and continued writing despite censorship. Pardoned and released in August 2023, he has since faced ongoing harassment, including assault and multiple summons by the Supreme State Security Prosecution (SSSP) over social media posts. In 2024–2025, he was questioned twice and released on bail in cases accusing him of spreading false news harming national security. The SSSP ordered the detention of Douma on April 6, 2026 on charges of "disseminating false news." He faces up to five years in prison.
