In November 2021, writer, journalist, and editor-in-chief of Paik newspaper Ahmad Ibrohim wrote a letter to the Prosecutor General about pressure on the the Paik staff by Tajik authorities. On August 12, 2024, he was arrested on accusations of bribing a public servant. With his arrest, Paik was also made to cease publication. On January 10, 2025, in a closed-door trial, Ibrohim was sentenced to 10 years and 4 months in prison for bribery, extortion, and extremism. As of August 2025, his health had reportedly seriously declined. In January 2026, activists wrote to the Tajik president advocating for Ibrohim's release.
