Abdubesir Shukuri

Abdubesir Shukuri is a writer and professor at Xinjiang Normal University specializing in Uyghur literature, philosophy, and belief systems in Turkic Central Asia. He served as dean of the university’s Literature Department and authored more than 50 articles and books in Uyghur and Chinese on culturally sensitive topics that have increasingly drawn government scrutiny. Shukuri was forcibly disappeared in 2017 and was reportedly sentenced to life imprisonment that same year.
