Abdirahman Ibrahim Adan

Abdirahman Ibrahim Adan, a poet in Somaliland, was arrested on January 12, 2019 after publicly reciting a poem the previous day in which he called on the Somaliland government to reform its prisons and criminal justice system. He was acquitted and released on February 25, 2019. On February 6, 2024, however, Adnan was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison in a separate case. While the charges are unlcear, they are allegedly politically motivated and due to his outspoken criticism of the government.
