Robert Weaver’s short stories have appeared in a variety of literary quarterlies and online publications, including The Chattahoochee Review, Christopher Street, GSU Review, Boston’s The Guide, Lodestar Quarterly, The Velvet Mafia, and The Portable Wall. A participant in the Anne Frank Center’s Prison Diary Project, his writing has also been selected for several PEN Prison Writing Awards, including four first place prizes.

Of Ash and Bone
Even the legend of the two self-garroters varied according to the storyteller. In some versions the men were star-crossed lovers who died tragically, side by side. In others the men were merely cellmates who died weeks apart. In another version the men had never met and their deaths were separated by years.
The Secret of Sky: Act III
SCENE: The Prisoner’s cell, near sunset. The sky, as viewed through the cell’s lone window, is a waning indigo blue. The cell itself softly glows with the coppery light of the last rays of sun. Dozens of tiny lights (suggestive of votive candles) sparkle and flicker throughout the cell, much like the scattering of gold coins in a fountain.
Somewhere Between
A lone figure on the yard: an Orderly pushing a sheet-covered body on a gurney. The gurney hits a bump on the sidewalk. An arm pops out from beneath the sheet. The Orderly stops, replaces the arm under the sheet. He resumes movement.
