T.J. English is a best-selling author and award-winning journalist and screenwriter. He has written five non-fiction books, including The Savage City, Havana Nocturne, and The Westies. His journalism has appeared in Playboy, Esquire, and New York magazine.
In addition, he has written episodes of the television crime dramas NYPD Blue and Homicide: Life on the Streets, for which he was awarded the Humanitas Prize. He has also won a New York Press Club journalism award for Best Crime Reporting.
Early in his career, while working as a freelance journalist, English was a New York City taxi driver.
