Peter Carey has lived in New York City since 1990.
He is one of two writers in history to have won the Booker Prize twice. His 1985 novel Illywhacker was short-listed for the prize while his next, Oscar and Lucinda, won. In 2001, True History of the Kelly Gang won the prize once more. His novels have won every major Australian Literary award, including the Miles Franklin (3 times) and the National Book Council Award (3 times). His most recent novel is His Illegal Self.
Carey directs the MFA Creative Writing program at Hunter College and he was a participant in the 2005 PEN World Voices Festival.
