Peter Nathaniel Malae

Peter Nathaniel Malae is the author of the novels Son of Amity (Oregon State University Press, ’18), Our Frail Blood (Grove, ’13) and What We Are (Grove, ’10); and the story collection, Teach the Free Man (Swallow Press, ’07)–each of which won a few awards. A former Steinbeck, Arts Council Silicon Valley, Oregon Literary Arts and MacDowell Colony Fellow and San Francisco Foundation’s Joseph Henry Jackson Award winner, Malae has spent the last four years in the Oregon Department of Corrections completing a book of 384 poems, about twenty of which have been published in Witness, Poetry Northwest, South Carolina Review, Reed and other places. He is seeking a publisher for this project. He’s honored to have an essay (“The D.O.C.-MFA”) and a play (“The Question”) in the 2024 PEN Prison Writing Awards.
