Peter Nathaniel Malae

Peter Nathaniel Malae is the author of the novels Son of Amity (Oregon State University Press, 2018) and What We Are (Grove, 2010), and the short story collection, Teach the Free Man (Swallow Press, 2007)—each of which won a few awards. A former Steinbeck Fellow at San Jose State University, Arts Council Silicon Valley, Oregon Literary Arts, and MacDowell Colony Fellow. Malae has spent the last four years in the Oregon Department of Corrections, completing a book of 384 poems, about twenty of which have been published in Witness, Poetry Northwest, South Carolina Review, and other places. He is seeking a publisher for this project. He’s honored to have an essay (“The D.O.C. – MFA”) and a play (“The Question”) in the 2024 PEN Prison Writing Awards.
