Natasha Trethewey is one of the youngest U.S. Poet Laureates in history, and just one of two to hail from the South. Her first book, Domestic Worker, won the inaugural Cave Canem Poetry Prize awarded by Rita Dove and the Lillian Smith Award for Poetry. In 2006, her book Native Guard garnered the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. She is Director of the Creative Writing Program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
