Michael Friedman wrote the songs for The Civilians’ In the Footprint: The Battle over Atlantic Yards (2010), a musical based on research and interviews in the disputed Brooklyn territory now slated for the New Jersey Nets arena.
Friedman is a Founding Associate Artist of The Civilians, an investigative performance troupe in New York. He wrote the music and lyrics for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. He was also the dramaturg for the recent Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Kenny Leon.
In 2007, he received an Obie award for sustained excellence.
