Congressman Keith Ellison was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan.
He received his law degree from the University of Minnesota. In 2003, he was elected to the Minnesota State House of Representatives, where he served on the Public Safety, Policy and Finance, and Election and Civil Law Committees. There he served on the Public Safety, Policy and Finance, and Election and Civil Law Committees. In 2007, he became the first Muslim member of the United States Congress.
He represents the Fifth District of Minnesota as a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) and serves on the Financial Services and Foreign Affairs Committees, including the International Organizations, Human Rights, and Oversight Subcommittee of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
