Justin Shilad is the former Middle East and North Africa Research and Advocacy Lead at PEN America. Previously, he was the Senior MENA Researcher at the Committee to Protect Journalists, where he spent six years covering press freedom issues throughout the region and coordinating advocacy campaigns, with a particular focus on Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Shilad’s career encompasses over a decade of work in human rights advocacy and journalism. He received his B.A. in International Studies and Literature from American University, and his M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
