Fowota Mortoo is a Gap Year Fellow at PEN America. She is a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill where she majored in Global Studies and minored in Geography. She spends a lot of time examining the intimately reciprocal nature of narrative and how we make space, and has done work related to preserving collective memory, archiving, and oral histories in Ghana. She was named to the inaugural National Humanities Center Undergraduate Leadership Council in 2022 and her writing was named a finalist for the 2022 Craft Literary Hybrid Writing Award.
