A smiling man sits at a café table with a coffee mug and laptop. A chalkboard behind him reads, We dont have Wi-Fi, talk to each other, and a small wooden sign says, Coffee and friends, a perfect blend.

David Meth

David Meth is a novelist, award-winning playwright and essayist who writes about people caught between cultures and social justice.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn with storytellers who came from the streets, poolrooms, diners, and cafes. It brought me to Yonsei University to teach in Seoul under martial law, and to teach in Tokyo where I found myself in the middle of a massive protest between an unmoving student body and a wall of police. Touring India with my play, TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY, I also took to the streets and markets, combed through bookstores, and met with people in cafes.
