Daniel Kaufman is the founding director of ELA (Endangered Language Alliance), a non-profit organization whose goal is to document endangered languages in New York City and help keep them vital. As a linguist, Daniel’s specialization is in the Austronesian languages of the Philippines and Indonesia. He holds a PhD from Cornell University and in addition to serving as ELA director also teaches as an adjunct professor at the CUNY Graduate Center and Columbia University. His work documenting the languages of New York has been featured in the New York Times, the Economist, CNN, and most recently BBC radio, among others.
