Carlos Fraenkel

Carlos Fraenkel grew up between Germany and Brazil, studied in Berlin and Jerusalem, and teaches philosophy and religion at McGill University and Oxford University. He’s written on philosophers such as Plato, al-Fârâbî, Maimonides, and Spinoza, and on conducting philosophical debates in places of conflict—for example with Palestinian students, lapsed Hasidic Jews, and members of an Iroquois nation. His publications include Teaching Plato in Palestine: Philosophy in a Divided World and pieces for, among others, the London Review of Books, the TLS, The Nation, and The New York Times. He’s now at work on a family memoir.
