Brian Selznick was born in 1966 in New Jersey. He studied at The Rhode Island School of Design and worked at Eeyore’s Books for Children in New York City.
He wrote and illustrated the books The Houdini Box and The Boy of a Thousand Faces. He has illustrated books for children including Frindle by Andrew Clements, The Doll People by Ann Martin and Laura Godwin, and Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride by Pam Muñoz Ryan.
His accolades include a Caldecott Medal for The Invention of Hugo Cabret, the book that inspired the five-time Oscar-winning film, Hugo. Selznick has also received a Caldecott Honor for The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins and a Robert F. Sibert Honor for When Marian Sang.
He divides his time between New York and California.
