A person with short curly hair, wearing a bright yellow blazer and red lipstick, smiles softly at the camera. The background is dimly lit with blurred objects and a lamp.

Basma Mostafa

Basma Mostafa is an Egyptian investigative journalist whose reporting on state violence led to her arrest three times. Now in exile in Berlin, she has faced sustained translational repression in retaliation for her continued work. Despite this, she continues to document and expose abuses, advocate for accountability, and defend press freedom and the rights of exiled journalists.

Beyond journalism, she is a co-founder and Programs Director of Law and Democracy Support Foundation e.V., a Berlin-based civil society organization that focuses on freedom of expression, press freedom, and the protection of human rights defenders at risk — both in the MENA region and in exile.
