Intern, Prison and Justice Writing

Alec Sandoval is a Spring 2021 Prison and Justice Writing intern. Born and raised in Riverside, CA, Sandoval graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in the fall of 2018, where he studied art history and English literature. At UC Berkeley, Sandoval particularly enjoyed his creative writing courses that explored genre-defying works of literature that weaved together fiction, poetry, and personal essaying. Through the Bay Area’s rich poetic community, Sandoval was introduced to the importance of small press publications and poetry’s indispensable relationship with activism. Upon returning to Southern California, Sandoval interned at Red Hen Press, an independent publisher based in Pasadena, CA, as a grant writing and development intern, and he began volunteering with the Prison Education Project.
