Its founding initiative, the PEN Prison Writing Awards, receives hundreds of submissions annually in the categories of Poetry, Fiction, Essay, Memoir, and Drama. Winners receive a cash prize, publication in an anthology series, and the opportunity to participate in the Prison Writing Mentorship Program.
