(NEW YORK)–PEN America today welcomed the release of Mahmoud Khalil and in response, Kristen Shahverdian, Campus Free Speech director at PEN America, said:
“We are heartened by the long-overdue release of Mahmoud Khalil. While this decision is a welcome affirmation of his rights, we remain appalled by the Trump administration’s continued disregard for the rule of law and use of Mr. Khalil as a pawn in an effort to undermine free expression and human rights. We must remain vigilant to ensure Mr. Khalil’s continued freedom and to fight back against the administration’s inevitable future attempts to silence those with whom it disagrees.”
