PEN’s venerable Freedom to Write Program, which has fought for and won the release of hundreds of writers imprisoned for their work around the world, turns 50 this year. Come celebrate with us at the Brooklyn Book Festival, where PEN Members and friends will take the stage to read excerpts from the works of some of the many writers PEN has assisted through the years. This reading, part of PEN’s international “Because Writers Speak Their Minds” campaign, honors the thousands of writers around the world today who are risking their safety and security to exercise their creative freedom.
